Last Saturday was Small Business Saturday, one of my favourite days of the year.
It’s a whole day in which we can just celebrate the immense contribution to our society that's made by small businesses.
In the lead up to it, I visited independent businesses across Lichfield, Burntwood and the villages. I saw the work they do day in and day out to make our communities great places to live.
Having grown up here, I know how easy it is to forget how important these businesses are. Because they are always there and they have always been part of the fabric of our area, they're often too easily overlooked.
I thoroughly enjoyed visiting businesses including cafes, shops, pubs, and a butcher’s to celebrate Small Business Saturday. It was really interesting to learn about the histories of these businesses and how they operate.
Across our city and town centres in Lichfield and Burntwood and across every single village High Street in the constituency there are small and independent businesses doing their bit, really adding to the value of our communities. It is these entrepreneurs that give our area its unique character and charm.
I'm proud to support local independent businesses and as we move into the festive period, I am sure all these businesses will welcome your support, as they will all year round.
Many people look forward to celebrating Christmas and the New Year, but not everyone finds this season easy. So, as well as thanking all those small businesses that work to give us a Merry Christmas, I’d like to take this chance to thank all those charities, community and voluntary groups who will be going above and beyond to support our neighbourhoods this festive period.
Finally, I’d like to wish everyone across Lichfield, Burntwood and the villages a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
